The Classic Manhattan

The name "Manhattan" gets thrown around to describe all sorts of drinks. However, there is only one original. This is it.

Stirred  |  Coupe Glass  |  Served Up |  Cherry

Step 1:
Jigger into your mixing glass:

  • 2oz of American Rye Whiskey (the original whiskey of choice is rye but if you would rather use a bourbon or Canadian I guess we'll allow it)
  • 1oz of Sweet Vermouth (the quality of your Manhattan relies heavily on the quality of your vermouth - we like Cocchi Vermouth di Torino or Carpano Antica Formula)
  • 2 dashes of Angostura Bitters

Step 2:
Fill your mixing glass with ice and stir smoothly for 25-30 seconds. Yes, count it out. You're starting with 3 ounces of liquor and you want to end up with 5 ounces of cocktail.

Step 3:
Strain your fine amber concoction into a chilled cocktail glass.

Step 4:
Skewer a good cocktail cherry and lay over top of your glass before you take that glamor pic.

Step 5:
Sip your classic Manhattan, satisfied in the knowledge that you made it right.
