Vanilla Grapefruit Shrub

Homemade Vanilla Grapefruit Shrub... so yummy, so many cocktails, so little time.

Vanilla Beans  |  Grapefruit  |  Apple Cider Vinegar

Step 1:
In a bowl or large mason jar, peel an entire Grapefruit and add 1/3 cup white sugar. Muddle until it becomes a paste and smells amazing! Save the Grapefruit because you will use it later.

Step 2:
Wrap the bowl with plastic wrap or place the lid back on the mason jar and let it sit for 24 hours. Refrigeration not required.  Throughout the 24 hour period muddle the mixture again from time to time. No specific number of times.

Step 3:

If you used a bowl to make your paste pour it into a airtight jar now. After 24 hours, add 1/3 cup Apple Cider Vinegar, a dash of salt, 1 Tsp of Vanilla Bean Paste or a few fresh Vanilla Beans split open and place them in the mixture.

Original recipe calls for White Vinegar but we wanted try it with apple cider vinegar to help bring out a more citrus note to the shrub.

Step 4:
Cut the saved Grapefruit into chunks and place them in the jar and squeeze them a little to get the juices flowing.  Seal the jar and store in your fridge for 7 days then strain and enjoy!

Step 5:
M&S Addition...We cut up a blood orange and squeezed the juice into the jar and added 1 Tsp of Vanilla Extract just because we like Vanilla.

The is highly concentrated so a little goes a long way!

Step 6:
