Blending Whiskey

I saw this online a while ago but can't remember where. To the author of this article, i deeply apologize but thank you very much for highlighting something totally different for every cocktail lover to enjoy and for repeating our mantra...Keep Mixing!

Blends usually are more thought of with wine than with whiskey but with a creative palette can work with anything. This is where the article comes into play. In Duggan McDonnell's book Drinking the Devils Acre lies a hidden recipe for The Superior Cocktail Whiskey.

  • 17.5oz Wilde Turkey 81 Rye
  • 10.5oz Tennessee Sour Mash
  • 7oz Elijah Craig 12 Year Old

The recipe says you should let it sit for 2 weeks before using, but I don't understand why...once the whiskeys are in the same bottle and shaken a few times they will integrate and be ready to use. Nonetheless, its up to you but i think if you want to let it sit for a day that should be fine.

What I did from here was make a Manhattan and an Old Fashioned to learn how it mixed...remarkably well! Give it a try and let us know what other combination of whiskeys, rums, tequilas, whatever else you get your hands on and mix.

Keep Mixing!
