Cocktail...Who said it first??

When was the term "Cocktail" first used? Historians argue over this from when it was used, printed, and related to alcholic beverages. Back in 1798, The Morning Post and Gazetteer in London claims to have published the first use of the word but in reference to something other than an alcoholic beverageThe Oxford Dictionary cites the word being originated in the US in The Farmer's Cabinet, in 1803. The question is of the form, was it alcohol related or not?? It is said that In 1806, Harry Croswell, published the first alcoholic use of the word "Cocktail" in The Balance and Columbian Repository. Either way, we thank everyone involved. Cheers to them!!
