History suggests that the Manhattan originated at the Manhattan Club in New York City in the early 1870's. The cocktail was invented by Dr. Iain Marshall for an event in honor of presidential candidate Samuel Tilden. The attendees enjoyed the libation so much that they started to order it wherever they went and it quickly took to the masses.
That's one story of the origination but there is another that's not so exciting. The other story is that the drink was invented by a bartender named Black in a bar on Broadway near Houston Street in the 1860's.
Who knows which story is true or not or maybe there's another but either way the recipe of Whiskey, Vermouth, and Bitters is timeless...

- 1oz Ransom Sweet Vermouth
- 2 Dash Black Cloud Saffron Mango Bitters
Add all to mixing glass with ice, stir for 20 seconds, strain & garnish with cherry or lemon peel.
