St. George Spirits can do no wrong...They have an amazing Gin, a stellar vodka, and so many other amazing products. Not only have they nailed the taste profile in all their products but their packaging is on point! In 2016, they introduced to the market Bruto Americano.
Bruto Americano is a bitter aperitivo liqueur that makes us thirsty. That's right, a mouth-watering bitter liqueur. Master Distiller Lance Winters created a powerful taste with a bracing dose of bitterness, a bright pop of citrus, and intriguing sylvan notes. Good bye Campari and Hello Bruto!
Bruto is made from a variety of herbs, roots, and other botanicals. Though the exact number of ingredients and formulation are proprietary, we will say that the bitterness comes primarily from gentian root; the citrus notes mostly from California-grown Seville orange; and the woodsy notes from balsam fir and Cascara sagrada (bark from the California buckthorn). Some ingredients are hot-steeped, others are cold-infused. The resulting mixture is filtered and then colored in the traditional manner with cochineal to achieve a natural ruby red hue.
On the palate, vibrant citrus, with notes of cinnamon, sandalwood, and forest on the nose. Your first sip is bitter, followed by a woodsy mid-palate and lingering bitter/citrus finish. It's like they took and orange, put it in a smoker with magical wood and out came Bruto!
So many possibilities to mix with, but to start we made a Bruto and Soda with lemon and fell out of our chair. Next came a Negroni, Boulevardier, Americano, and with each drink we fell deeper in love. As we said before...Good bye Campari and Hello Bruto!
I spent many years in the packaging industry so I notice more than others the bottles, labels, boxes that products come in. The Italian Mondernism inspired label blew me a way. They nailed every aspect of this product.
Kudos to the Winters and St. George Spirits for creating another fabulous product! Keep them coming!
